Description

The Elegant Stripe Chawanmushi Bowl pairs alternating blue and amber stripes with a smooth, glazed porcelain surface. The stripes run the full height of the bowl, creating a clean graphic pattern that gives this chawanmushi bowl a distinctive look.

Made in the Seto ware tradition, one of Japan's oldest ceramic-producing regions, the bowl comes with a fitted lid that helps keep chawanmushi warm and flavorful. Beyond chawanmushi, it is also well-suited for small desserts, fruit, or side dishes. The smooth finish and balanced shape make it comfortable to hold, while the lid provides a neat presentation at the table.

Combining traditional Seto ware craftsmanship with a blue and amber striped design, this chawanmushi bowl works well for everyday meals and a variety of Japanese table settings.

More Details

Seto Ware

Produced in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, this craft is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, with a history of more than 1,000 years. Blessed with rich deposits of fine clay, the region became the first in Japan to use glaze, marking a major turning point in ceramic history. Unique for producing both pottery and porcelain, Seto ware ranges from everyday tableware to fine tea utensils. The name “Seto” later gave rise to the word “setomono,” meaning ceramics in general. Today, the town remains a thriving center of craftsmanship and innovation.

Chawanmushi Bowl

The unique steaming bowl called mushi wan (蒸し碗) is the size and shape of a tea cup and comes with a matching lid. It's used to make the popular Japanese dish chawanmushi, or Japanese steamed savory custard. This delicate appetizer is typically eaten with a small wooden or lacquered spoon. The bowl is also useful as a dessert cup to serve Western-style sweets like puddings and jellies.

FAQ

Can I add a gift message to my order?

Yes. You may add a personalized gift message of up to 250 characters at checkout — it is printed on a card and included inside the package. Prices and order details are never shown on the card or anywhere in the shipment, so the recipient sees only your message and the gift itself.

Will my order be wrapped as a gift?

Yes. Every JOC Goods order is wrapped in a traditional Japanese furoshiki cloth before shipping at no extra charge — both gifts and personal orders. If your order includes many or large items, the furoshiki may be packed inside the box rather than wrapped around them. Prices are never included in any shipment.
